Luther's Ninety-Five Theses

Luther wrote in Latin for a university debate. Printers translated, condensed and distributed the theses across German-speaking Europe within weeks — the first mass media event.

By 1521 he had been excommunicated and outlawed, and was translating the New Testament into German at the Wartburg.
