The Palaces of Knossos

The story
The first palace developed around 1900 BCE. Later rebuilding produced elaborate courtyards, workshops and painted rooms that reveal a society connected to trade across the eastern Mediterranean.
Many structures visible today were reconstructed under Arthur Evans in the early twentieth century. They help visitors imagine the palace, but must be distinguished from the surviving Bronze Age fabric.
