The story
Around 1250 BCE, builders expanded the fortifications of Mycenae and created the Lion Gate. Its immense stone blocks and relief advertised the authority of the palace within.
Mycenaean rulers governed through palace administrations and extensive trade networks. Later Greek poetry associated the citadel with Agamemnon, but archaeology and Homeric legend are different kinds of evidence.
