Delphi and the Oracle of Apollo
Delphi · Greece · Cultural · Classical Antiquity
The story
Delphi rose to prominence during the early first millennium BCE. Visitors consulted the Pythia, Apollo’s priestess, while communities dedicated treasures and monuments in the sanctuary.
The site also hosted the Pythian Games. Its buildings span many centuries, so the date here marks an approximate phase of growing importance rather than the foundation of every surviving monument.
